Robert (Bob) Mitchell worked as property manager at Branklyn NTS for many years. Branklyn gardens have an important collection of Rhododendrons with with plants derived from seed collected by George Forrest and Ludlow.
Bob also held the position as curator at University Gardens St. Andrews but perhaps his most remarkable achievement was during1981 when he led the Sino-European expedition to China, the first joint Sino-European botanical expedition since 1947.
