Marion Kinns – SRS Research Director

I have a Natural Sciences degree though I never included botany in the mix which I regret now. So, I have no training in horticulture or plant science but my scientific background means I like detail.

I have been a volunteer guide at Benmore for over 20 years. This has led to my growing interest in rhododendrons and plants that grow alongside them. We have a garden on three quarters of an acre with an east facing slope, mostly fairly shady. It is not a show garden but is based on my interest in various species which has changed over the years. I have been planting for over 40 years so some shrubs/ trees are quite mature. It is satisfying to realise that I have planted everything ( except some very old monkey puzzles and one rowan) myself, or with some help in latter years.
