Philip lives in Edinburgh. He is a long standing member of the SRS and along with managing the E&E grant fund is also involved with the show committee. He is a regular attendee at the annual show where he helps setup and advise newcomers on how best to display their exhibits.
His knowledge of plants and all things horticultural is second-to-none and his comments and advice are regularly sought after.
Philip has been instrumental in the setup of the newly launched ‘Education and Exploration Grant Fund’ that it is hoped will help support many great projects in the future.
If you feel you could add a contribution or leave a legacy to the fund or if you want to make an application for funding contact Philp Rankin.

The Scottish Rhododendron Society
Bronze Medal Award
You have been active in the Scottish Rhododendron Society for many years
and voluntarily took on the role of Tour Bus Marshal at the 1996 ARS
Convention held in Oban, which was an onerous task that you very suc
cessfully organised, involving 11 full-size and two half-size Tour buses with
a programme of 42 Tours to be arranged over the eight-day duration of the
Convention.
Two years later you became a Committee Member of the Scottish Chapter
with a remit to assist the Shows Committee to organise and run the Annual
Show and Plant Sale. For more than twenty years you have regularly
donated plants and helped to run the Plant Sale.
When the Scottish Rhododendron Society came of age in 2008 and celebrated
on an International Level by holding a three-day Silver Jubilee Conference
at the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh, you took on the role of leading
the three-day Pre-Conference Tour of Gardens in a full-size Tour bus.
You have always been ready to share your wide knowledge regarding plant
pests and diseases gained whilst working with Scotland’s Plant Health
Executive, together with your experience whilst working with a plant nurs
ery, from which many members have benefited.
More recently you have regularly audited the Society’s Accounts and sup
ported the work of the organisation in many other ways, for which the
Directors are delighted to present
Philip Rankin
with the Scottish Rhododendron’s Society’s highest award, the Bronze
Medal of the American Rhododendron Society, our parent body.
Given at the Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh, this day 2nd October 2021.
